Description:

1850 Baltimore Maryland (MD) City of Baltimore, Trustee's Bond signed by several individuals, including George M. Gill, a graduate of St. Mary's Seminary, who became an attorney and Baltimore City Counselor. He is famous for representing John Merryman in his habeas corpus case, Ex parte Merryman, in front of Supreme Court Chief Justice Taney, who declared Lincoln's suspension of habeas corpus unconstitutional. Very important legal precedent. There is also a signature of Grafton L. Delany, a city solicitor, whose family owned the land that the Naval Academy at Annapolis was built. Other signatures are of Charles A Thomas and James N. Cartier.
